Criminal Division

The Prosecutor's Office is most commonly known for its aggressive handling of felonies. Felonies are crimes that are punished by more than one year in jail or prison, such as rape, robbery, burglary, and murder. Nine assistant prosecuting attorneys are assigned to handle these cases: Steven Knippen, John Arnold, Kirsten Brandt, Christopher Delnicki, Cynthia Ellison, Derek Faulkner, Karl Harris, Carrie Heisele, Teresa Hiett, and Travis Vieux. Each attorney is responsible for handling all aspects of felony prosecutions - from arraignment to trial and sentencing.

In addition to prosecuting felonies in the Court of Common Pleas, the Warren County Prosecutor's Office defends convictions that have been appealed to the Twelfth District Court of Appeals and to the Ohio Supreme Court. Responsibilities in the appellate area include researching the law, writing "briefs" (written arguments of law and fact), and oral arguments before the Court. One assistant prosecuting attorney is assigned to handle these cases: Kirsten Brandt.
