Can I talk to someone about my plans when I come in?

Yes. The plan examiner can answer any questions you may have concerning your plans. An appointment should be made before meeting with a plans examiner.

When can I talk to the plan examiner?

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Why does it take so long to get a permit?

The County is growing and due to the large volume of permits, the plans are reviewed in the order that they come in. Residential plan review takes 5 - 7 business days and commercial plan review takes 14 days depending on its complexity.

Does Warren County require an ice & water shield?

Yes.

Do I need drawings for a sprinkler system, fire alarms, hoods?

Yes.

What is the R-factor?

Thermal resistance rating of insulation.

Do I have to be registered as a general contractor?

No.

Who checks gas tanks, oil tanks, etc.?

The supplier.

Who checks chemical problems?

The Fire Department, the Warren County Combined Health District, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency as well as County Zoning for the areas that are covered under the Aquifer/Wellhead Protection Overlay Areas.

Why do I need to be registered as an electrician?

  • A registration fee of $50 per year effective January 1, through December 31.

What does the Planning Commission do and why do I have to go there?

They do lot splits, subdivisions, planned unit developments, land use maps, etc.

Do I need structural drawings for a swimming pool?

Yes. You also need to apply for a zoning permit to ensure proper setback requirements.

Do I need structural drawings for a storage building? Why?

Yes, if over two hundred (200) square feet. To ensure the safety of the structure. You also need to apply for a zoning permit to ensure proper setback requirements.

How soon can I move into my new house?

Once you receive your "Certificate of Occupancy". This is issued once you have received final building/electrical/plumbing inspections.

Do I need a fence around a swimming pool?

Check with your local Zoning Inspector.

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?

Yes, all commercial projects require a permit. If you are building a retaining wall for residential use and the wall is 4 feet or taller, you must obtain a building permit. You also need zoning approval. Check with your local Zoning Inspector.

Does a driveway need a culvert permit?

Yes, if it is a street with open ditch drainage. (No curb and gutter)

No. But if you live in a city call your local engineer

Do I need a permit for a pole light?

Yes, an electrical permit.
