Shannon Jones Commissioner Shannon Jones is a seasoned public servant with a distinguished record of leadership and advocacy. Elected to the Warren County Commission in November 2016, Shannon brings over a decade of prior elected service in the Ohio General Assembly, showcasing her unwavering commitment to community welfare.

Recognized as a passionate advocate for children and families, Shannon leverages her trusted influence to enhance the quality of life for all Warren County residents. Committed to fiscal responsibility, she employs data and evidence to evaluate policies, ensuring the most efficient and cost-effective delivery of high-quality county services.

Shannon's leadership extends beyond county lines. She has been elected to the Board of the County Commissioner’s Association of Ohio (CCAO), where she actively shapes and advocates for state policies that address the needs of counties and their constituents. Appointed by the president of the National Association of Counties (NACo), Shannon serves as Chair of the Human Services and Education Policy Steering Committee, overseeing critical matters related to children’s issues, foster care, public assistance, senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, immigration policy, social services, and education.

Before her county service, Shannon's impactful tenure in the Ohio General Assembly marked her as a trailblazer. The only woman in her party, and the first in Ohio's history, to be elected to the majority leadership teams in both chambers, she addressed challenging issues in a bipartisan fashion. Her leadership roles included Chair of the Senate Public Utilities Committee, Chair of the Senate Medicaid, Health & Human Services Committee, and Vice-Chair of the powerful Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee.

Beyond the realm of politics, Shannon leads Groundwork Ohio, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to advancing quality early care and education. As CEO, she tirelessly advocates for strategic investments in the health and well-being of Ohio’s youngest children, emphasizing their crucial role in the state's long-term economic success.

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Shannon's influence extends to various boards, including the Warren County Foundation, the United Way of Warren County, Premier Health, and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Ohio. Her accolades include the 2019 Venue Magazine Woman of Influence Award, the 2016 YWCA Woman of Influence Award, and recognition in the Dayton Business Journal’s “Power 50 Most Influential Women” list multiple times.

Shannon, along with her husband Russell, resides in Springboro with their dog, Murphy. Their daughter, Anna, studies secondary education at Ohio University, while their son, Jake, a 2022 graduate of Wright State University, is pursuing his acting career in Chicago. Shannon's most cherished moments involve family time, whether cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals, attending Dayton Flyer basketball games, or enjoying the beach in Siesta Key.

The Board of County Commissioners Meeting is held on Tuesdays at 9:00 am and the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at 5:00 pm. Thursday meetings are on an "as needed" basis and the Board may schedule or cancel as deemed necessary.
