Juvenile Detention Center

About the Facility

The Warren County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) is located at the Juvenile Justice Complex. JDC is a 26-bed facility: with a rated capacity of 24 with 2 holding cells. The Superintendent oversees the daily operations of the facility. Potential employees must complete a background investigation, psychological evaluation, physical, and a drug screen to be eligible for employment. All JDC staff are required to attend annual training that directly relates to the care and control of juveniles detained in a correctional facility.

Juveniles detained in JDC are classified by gender, charge type, prior criminal history, and behavior. The process of classification allows for the identification and separation of non-violent offenders from violent offenders to maximize safety. Such separation is imposed for all activities such as school, recreation, meals, and group exercises.

A child shall be taken into custody to protect the child from immediate or threatened physical or emotional harm; or to protect the person or property of others from immediate or threatened physical or emotional harm; or the child may abscond or be removed from the jurisdiction of the court; or the child has no parent, guardian, custodian or other person able to provide supervision and care for the child and return the child to the court when required; or an order for placement of the child in detention has been made by the court; or confinement is authorized by statute.

A child admitted to detention is entitled to a detention hearing no later than 72 hours after the child has been placed into detention. Staff will use reasonable diligence to contact the child's parent, custodian, or guardian and advise that person of the time, place, and purpose of the detention hearing.

The Detention Center shall provide a safe and secure environment for all juveniles detained in our custody. Corrections staff will continue to be a positive role model for youth while maintaining structure and discipline. Administration provides training to staff with the goal of developing employees with the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. We shall treat all persons with dignity and respect. This may be a juvenile's first contact with the justice system, it is our goal that is also be the last.
