History of Office

County Zoning was adopted in the following townships November 13, 1959: Deerfield, Franklin, Harlan, Turtlecreek and Union. Washington Township adopted County Zoning January 19, 1967. The County Zoning Code was readopted in Deerfield, Franklin and Union Townships November 16, 1972. The County Zoning Code was readopted in Harlan and Turtlecreek Townships November 13, 1973. The County Zoning Code was readopted in Washington Township on May 22, 1990. Deerfield Township voted to change to Township Zoning November 18, 1997.

The following townships administer their own zoning codes: Clearcreek, Deerfield, Hamilton, Massie, Salem and Wayne.

The County Building Inspector and County Zoning Inspector positions were consolidated to become known as the County Building and Zoning Inspector, November 17, 1959.
